Executive Summary
The increased burden of NCDs is already a global concern and a number one cause of mortality and morbidity globally. To meet the SGDs number 3.4 of reducing mortality by one third, 6.8 million deaths need to be averted, Tanzania is among the hardest hit nations by NCDs. Engage of the community and promote innovative approaches to STOP relentless growing of NCDs prevalence and associated sufferings, is a paramount way to go. The East African Public Health Palliative Care Congress “EAPCON” embraces sustainable solutions to slow down the NCDs occurrence and associated unwanted health outcomes. The EAPCON overall goal is to provide forum for the practices, academics, and communities to: evaluate, share and learn novel approaches of public health and palliative care in primary prevention and continuum of care for people affected by NCDs. Our specific aims are: primary prevention of NCDs, palliative care advocacy, volunteerism, and implementation science “research”. It will minimize redundant processes and occurrence of hospital futile events which are the major causes of hospital wastes and unnecessary expenses. For the years 2023, in commemoration of the Worlds Palliative Care Week “3 to 8th October” the EAPCON will host a one day symposium parallel with: public pain screen and treatment camps, TV and Radio Programs, and Patients Vs Doctors Dialogs.
Background information
The increased burden of NCDs is already a global concern and a number one cause of mortality and morbidity globally . In 2008 alone of 57million reported global deaths 36million (63%) deaths were attributable to NCDs and 80% were found in LMIC. About half of all deaths due to NCDs in the LMIC occur prematurely below age of 70 years . Using UN mortality trend by 2030, 70million deaths will occur, 23.7 million deaths will be attributable to NCDs and 90% of these deaths will be found in the LMIC. To meet the SGDs number 3.4 of reducing mortality by one third, 6.8 million deaths need to be averted
About the East African Public and Palliative Care Congress “EAPCON”
We are non-for profit health organization registered by the ministry for health that advocate for primary prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and promote palliative health care services. Our overarching goal is to establish a multisector forum of sharing and promoting best practices on public health and palliative care health concerns through an organized congress that engage both the: communities, academics and health practitioners. Our specific objectives include: 1) primary prevention of NCDs, 2) palliative care advocacy, 3) promote volunteerism, 4) implementation science through research.
Why East African Public and Palliative Care Congress “EAPCON
The speed of overgrowing burden of NCDs is the fastest ever in history affecting the most productive age group something that pause a huge threat to our systems for health and to the nation’s economic developments. To overcome the pressing NCDs agony, it is critical for the nation to rigorously engage all stake holders within and outside health sector to address the NCDs catastrophe. The EAPCON here with; provides an exemplary model of combatting NCDs with a fully engagement of communities. It will minimize redundant processes and occurrence of hospital futile events which are the major causes of hospital wastes and unnecessary expenses.
What we do
To achieve our objectives we: hosting health scientific congress, conduct health scientific symposium, promote palliative care health services, conduct train on public health & palliative care, conduct public health promotion camps, host radio and TV programs.
In the past two years, we trained a total of 104 health care providers on palliative care, provide palliative care services to 806 needy seniors. Also, we trained 160 religious leaders and community resourceful personnel on public health and palliative care.

Radio & TV Awareness Vibrant Programs
We plan to host radio and TV programs aim at raising awareness on palliative care and public health issues of concerns. Health care providers from various institutions offering palliative care services will engage in hosting radio and TV programs.
Seniors Health Screen & Pain Treatments Camps
We plan to host a two days pain screen and treatment camp in collaboration with the Ilala Municipality council and palliative care health providers.
Community Vs Doctors Healthy Dialogs
We plan to organize discussions forum via Whatsup, Instagram and Facebook to discuss public health palliative care concerns.
